Oral hygiene habits in children and adults

In addition to the changes in our diet and different methods used to reinforce the strength of our teeth, hygiene habits to which we referred in previous lines will become one of the most important preventive measures. Without going any further, diseases such as those mentioned above, that is, periodontal disease or tooth decay can greatly reduce their impact thanks to the care that we provide to our mouth and our teeth, an attention that we monitor from an early age.

In the case of children, one could say that these hygienic habits begin from the moment that breaks the first tooth in the mouth. In these cases, the parents themselves can clean the tooth with gauze, but when there are more of erupted teeth, you should always start with the same arcade, cleaning the buccal, lingual and finally occlusal and tongue and cheeks.

Not until the child reaches three years of age it is advisable not to use the toothpaste, because of the complications that may involve the fact that the child does not swallow. The dentifrice stimulates the secretion of saliva, complicating the task of seeing teeth.

The ideal for the child you first visit the dentist, either in dental clinics or in which we find it reliable, is two years, although in many cases is delayed until age 5 years. Parents require information about brushing and the use of fluoride toothpaste. With this visit as early medical specialist will be achieved, not only to lose the fear of these professionals, but at the same time be reviewed development of the dental arches and the jawbone, confirm eating habits, the use of fluoride. Thus, it is intended that the child between 6 and 10 years and can go blaming your own dental hygiene.

Remember that the most appropriate brushes for children are those with soft bristles with rounded tips.

For adults, in what refers to the work of brushing we are to avoid brushes with hard bristles because they can cause traumatic injuries and gingival recession. The appropriate time for this work is estimated at approximately two minutes and should review the cheeks, palate, gums and tongue for a more complete control of the plate.

It would not inconsiderable incorporate interproximal cleaning the oral hygiene daily, since it will help us reduce the gingival inflammation and interproximal caries. Extreme caution is necessary when we prepare to floss, because it can tear the gum.

In the case of toothpaste, used to reduce hypersensitivity, periodontal disease and calculus formation, the dose used is 1, 5 mg of fluoride. Meanwhile, the use of mouthwash, but not eliminate the dental film, will help us improve the halitosis and stop temporarily the number of microorganisms that accumulate in the oral microbiota.

You have to remember that after the use of mouthwash, you should not rinse your mouth with water or other liquid, at least for about 30 minutes, as the latter would impair the effectiveness of the product in our oral health.
