Bonding Stone: Why Settle for Ugly Fastenings?

When bonding stone and concrete, there can be a number of difficulties in achieving a long-lasting and professional-looking finish. This area of construction is notoriously hard to get right, largely due to the composition of both the stone and the concrete. However, if you need to carry out this type of work, you don’t have to settle for ugly fastenings. There are methods of creating a secure bond that can provide an effective finish.

The Problems of Bonding Stone

There are very few products available that have been specifically designed to bond stone and concrete together. Those that are generally used for this work are epoxy products, which consist of two separate elements. These two components are mixed just before the epoxy is required, and the resin is then applied to the material. There are different types of epoxy that have various hardening times.

However, these types of industrial adhesives are not the most efficient when bonding stone to concrete. They have a number of disadvantages that affect the performance of the bond.

There can be difficulties in mixing the two different elements of the epoxy. If this is not measured precisely, the bond will not be secure enough and it will come apart.

The length of the hardening process can also cause problems. With some products this can be as much as seven days, which impacts on the effectiveness of the bond.

Epoxy resins are not very flexible, which can be an issue when they’re used for stone and concrete bonding. Changes in climate and temperature mean there is a considerable amount of movement, which needs to be matched by the adhesive.

Creating an Effective Bond

There is a form of adhesive that is effective on concrete and stone. This uses the composition of a ct1 sealant and can create an immediate bond with no supports necessary. The construction adhesive consists of a polymer substance which has been altered to provide a fast-acting bond. As well as being exceptionally quick, the adhesive provides flexibility to maintain the attachment.

Choosing an effective adhesive for bonding stone and concrete saves both time and money. The work can be carried out quickly, and the immediate bond allows workers to move swiftly on to the next task. It provides a high-quality finish and can be used for a variety of applications.
