The paleo diet is a diet that seeks to mimic today, food that is carried in the Palaeolithic. Thus, it attempts to reduce processed foods, refined grains and simple sugars and eating whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, tubers and meats priority, of course.
The diet has changed a lot from the Palaeolithic to the present and that is one of the causes of many health problems besetting the population today. Therefore, the paleo diet could help prevent or reverse disease, however, is it the health benefits paleo diet? We tell you what science says about it.

A study published in the International Journal of Exercise Science analyzed the impact of a paleo diet ad libitum for 10 weeks in healthy adults of both sexes and concluded that their practice involves increases in blood lipids that could harm health but also positive changes were observed in body composition as reducing weight and body fat .
We should clarify that the paleo diet as such should not be developed “ad libitum” as in this study, because clearly our ancestors consumed higher proportion of harvested as fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts and a lower proportion of game meats of course, foods were more difficult to achieve. On the other hand, a research conducted by American scientists found that the paleo diet (based on lean meats, fruits, vegetables and nuts) improved blood lipids and glucose control in people with type 2 diabetes to a greater extent than a based diet recommendations of the American Diabetes Association that includes whole, low – fat dairy grains, legumes and low sodium content.
Similar results were found in non – obese or diabetic healthy adults in 2009 , where the paleo diet improved glucose control and insulin sensitivity, decreased blood pressure as a result of improved elasticity of the arteries and improved lipid blood, even without modifying the body weight. It was concluded that even a short – term diet similar to Palaeolithic can benefit health by improving several metabolic parameters.
In short, the paleo diet properly applied can provide various health benefits and if planned properly can also be a tool for weight loss. However, as noted this year’s review of the evidence about the paleo diet, should be reviewed calcium intake, especially in people vulnerable to osteoporosis.
In conclusion, the paleo diet with adequate amounts of different foods that star in it and planned according to the needs and goals of each person is beneficial to health and may allow improvements even without changes in body weight.
We must also not forget that diet alone is not always enough but for our health improvements and changes in food is important to control other lifestyle habits.
